Benjamin Baumgartner, today – April 22nd – it’s his 20th birthday and, coronavirus aside, he could celebrate also because, in the last few days he was nominated for the “young player of the year” in the context of the European Hockey Awards.
That is a nice recognition for this guy that we also named “best young player of the year” in our National League 2019-20 Oscar.
Benjamin Baumgartner 2019-20 season was outstanding. He played 37 games and tallied 27 points, including 7 goals. Let us now watch all his goals scored in this video we made.
Benjamin is a precious gem, a pure talent. 27 points in 37 games, during his first full season in the top tier of Swiss hockey, are really a lot. The thing is though, that points are not everything. What impressed the most about Baumgartner in fact, it is his personality. As we said he just turned 20 but he put an impressive maturity on display for a guy his age. We mean, he proved that not only is he ready to play National League hockey but also that he can already play a key role on his team.
Benjamin Baumgartner is eligible for the 2020 NHL Draft and he is currently ranked 80th by the NHL Central Scouting when it comes to European players. Again, that is a lot for this forward that made his National League debut with Davos on October 26th, 2018, in Lugano.
His first National League goal instead came on February 23rd, 2019, when Davos hosted the ZSC Lions and earned a 5-4 overtime win.
Last season – NL debut and first NL goal aside – was complicated for Davos, that was forced to play the playout final against Rapperswil. It was right during the playout, however, that Benjamin Baumgartner already proved to be a forward with an above average talent. And this season he confirmed that he is one of the best Swiss prospects and certainly a player that has all it takes to have a great career at the highest levels.
All the best, Benjamin!
