It’s time for the fifth derby of the season. Lugano host Ambrì-Piotta. The Bianconeri won the first derby on the road but then the Leventinesi won the following three.
Let’s see the two teams’ form.
The last game
Lugano are coming off the 5-3 road defeat suffered against Bienne that put their 4-games winning run to an end. The Bianconeri are nevertheless in great shape, they won 8 of their last 11 games and at the Cornèr Arena they won 4 of the last 5. In fact, they’re the most in-form team of the league in 2020 in terms of results. Also the latest performances were good. Pelletier’s troops struggle to score but they can create many good scoring chances.
Ambrì-Piotta are coming off the 3-0 home win earned against Bern that followed the 3-2 shootout road defeat suffered against Rapperswil. Luca Cereda’s guys are having ups and downs and won only 4 of their last 13 games. Moreover, they haven’t won two consecutive games since mid-December. To note that they also lost their last 4 road games and way from home they won only 1 of their last 7.
From 2016 to date, only 4 derbies required OT/SO in order to establish the winners. Ambrì-Piotta won the last three of them. The last time that the Bianconeri won a derby that required OT/SO dates back to January 2nd, 2016. On that occasion, at the Resega, the troops back then coached by Doug Shedden earned a 3-2 shootout win. The hosts scorers during the 60 minutes of play were Raffaele Sannitz and Tim Stapleton. The visitors scorers instead were Mark Bastl and Adrien Lauper. During the shootout series then, Tony Martensson, Fredrik Pettersson and Damien Brunner earned the extra point for Lugano.
