SC RAPPERSWIL-JONA LAKERS vs HC LUGANO 1-2 (OT)
Lugano earned a 2-1 comeback overtime win at the last gasp against Rapperswil on the road!
Let’s face it, it wasn’t a very spectacular game. Nevertheless, we think it’s safe to say that Jeff Tomlinson’s troops deserved more than 1 point. The Lakers in fact, especially during the first two period of play, delivered a good performance… they proved solid in defense and able to counterattack very well. The score, however, remained goalless until approximately the half-an-hour mark… and that’s mostly thanks to Sandro Zurkirchen. Until when it came the one that seemed to be the key moment of the game.
Lugano could play for about a minute 5 vs 3 but weren’t able to score. Shortly after that then, Rappi’s hard work paid off as Casey Wellmann scored the first goal of the night!
The hosts’ biggest problem then, was that they weren’t able to extend their lead. This factor allowed Lugano to stay in the game until the end… and allowed Lugano to create a couple of good scoring chances during the last third. Until when, at about 3 minutes to the end during a power-play situation Jani Lajunen scored the tying goal! A goal that came after a controverail penalty assessed to the hosts that outraged the hosting fans.
So, we moved on to the overtime period… when 84 seconds into it Sandro Zangger, after another controversial episode that outraged the hosting fans, scored the game winning goal for the Bianconeri!
Sami Kapanen’s win wasn’t a very convincing one but it was a godsend for the morale. After all, it’s never easy to win such games. And Rappi, for the umpteenth time, turned out to be a very tough nut to crack.
THE GUY ON FIRE
Sandro Zurkirchen is the main reason why Lugano was in the game until the end…
