HC PLZEN vs EV ZUG 2-1 (OT)
Champions Hockey League – 15.10.2019
Plzen needed to win by at least three goals in order to finish the group stage at the top of the table… the Czech, however, earned “only” a 2-1 shootout win. In other words, Dan Tangnes’ troops made it to the Round of 16 as group winners.
Obviously during the first period the hosts had more scoring chances. But it’s also safe to say that overall the game was quite balanced. 65 seconds into the second period though, Zug took the lead thanks to David McIntyre brillantly assisted by Dario Simion.
The score didn’t change until 91 seconds to the end, when Milan Gulas scored the tying goal for the hosts. But it was already too late, at that point the Bulls already secured their first place.
The game went therefore to overtime and shootout, during which the two goalies delivered excellent performances – congrats to Luca Hollenstein of Zug – and only Milan Gulas was able to convert the shootout and so earned the extra point for Plzen.
Not a big deal for Zug. Both teams advance to the next round. The Swiss Centrals as group winners!
