Our game summary, the key player, video highlights and game statistics.
The ZSC Lions earned a 3-1 home win against Fribourg Gottéron and therefore put their 3-games losing streak to an end.
The game played at the Hallenstadion was not very spectacular. In fact, both teams put some good and bad things on display. In this regards, it’s fair to say that the Lions made less mistakes and were able to make the difference thanks to their top class players…
Let’s take the beginning of the game for example. Fribourg Gottéron probably didn’t realize that the game started and only 15 seconds after the first puck drop were already down in the score because punished by Fredrik Pettersson. Starting from the 16th second of play though, the Dragons were slightly the better side during the first period… but they lacked of “killer instinct”.
During the second period then, the ZSC Lions tried to increase their level of play but Gottéron defended themselves pretty well. The game became somehow chaotic… but Mark French’s troops perseverance paid off in the 32nd minute of play, when Julien Sprunger equalized during a power-play situation (a miracle!).
The key moment of the game came shortly after that though… that is, in the 37th minute of play. Tim Ulmann was assessed a game misconduct penalty and Fribourg Gottéron had the glorious chance to play a 5 minutes power-play. 5 minutes during which, however, they proved extremely nervous and confused… and during which they even allowed Kevin Klein to restore the Lions lead!
During the third period then, Serge Aubin’s boys fought hard while Fribourg Gottéron seemed to lack that “little something extra”. It was therefore not an accident that the score didn’t change anymore until the final stages… when Marco Miranda scored an empty-netter and set the 3-1 final score.
Kevin Klein (ZSC Lions)
A top notch defensive performance… A real master penalty killer… And he even scored the game winning goal shorthanded!
