Over the past few months, Fabio Quartararo has faced a rollercoaster of emotions. The former MotoGP world champion, who struggled for an extended period, chose to extend his contract with Yamaha at the beginning of the year after being reassured by the team’s management that their project was on the right track. Initially, the Japanese team struggled to meet expectations, but by the end of the season, noticeable improvements were evident. Though still not competing among the front-runners, Quartararo reflected on the progress made in an interview with Motorsport: “We have significantly grown from the start of the season to now in terms of our project. I expected changes to come quicker. However, just from an aesthetic standpoint, we can see that the bike has completely transformed since Qatar. Even in terms of riding, I believe we’ve made a tremendous advancement. Although the results may not fully demonstrate this, in the last two races I qualified sixth in Thailand and achieved P5 in Malaysia during qualifiers, finishing P6 in the race. That’s a notable improvement. I think we are indeed making strides forward.”
Embracing Results: Quartararo’s Optimism
Fabio Quartararo is now looking ahead, eager for the chance to compete against Ducati. He believes that the changes implemented this year, alongside the addition of the Aprilia team to their structure, will significantly impact their performance next season: “Without the concessions, it would have been disastrous. The main thing missing were riders. We only had two, and with Cal [Crutchlow] injured, we were short on test riders. Essentially, we were on our own, and that posed the biggest challenge this year. But next season, we will have another factory team and a growing test team. I think the direction we’ve taken since Misano 2 is far better. The results may not be outstanding yet, but I see steady development. We have only missed Q2 once since Misano 1, and the improvements are evident. I believe we will move even faster next year.”
Reflecting on Recent Challenges
Quartaro’s journey with Yamaha hasn’t been easy. He candidly shared his thoughts on the tumultuous months, expressing gratitude for the progress made, and is looking forward to what’s coming next: “Despite the hardships, I’m glad to see how far we’ve come. I feel optimistic about our future as a team. With the right testing riders and resources, I trust we can continue to raise our competitive level.” His resilience shines through, illustrating his commitment to the team’s trajectory and development.
A Promising Future Ahead
As Quartararo gears up for the upcoming season, there’s a palpable sense of excitement in the air. Yamaha’s potential improvements, coupled with Quartararo’s tenacity, suggest that the team could make significant strides in its performance. With the addition of talented test riders, he believes Yamaha will be better equipped to innovate and refine their approach, enabling them to close the gap with their competitors. Fans are eagerly anticipating the collaboration that lies ahead. Quartararo has faith in his team’s direction and is ready to tackle new challenges in the coming season.
In conclusion, Fabio Quartararo’s journey with Yamaha reflects a narrative of perseverance, growth, and hopeful prospects. As he navigates through the highs and lows of racing, his determination remains unwavering, promising a thrilling season ahead for both himself and the Yamaha team.
