Ferrari Rolls Out Last-Minute Upgrades: “When We Have Strong Options”

Frédéric Vasseur, the team principal of Ferrari, has disclosed that the Scuderia is considering introducing upgrades for their car in Qatar. At the recent race in Austin, Ferrari was one of the few teams not to bring significant improvements to their setup. However, this did not stop the Italian team from clinching a remarkable one-two finish. Vasseur, however, cautions fans not to expect a repeat of this success at the upcoming Mexican Grand Prix.

Unexpected Achievement in Austin

During the Austin Grand Prix, Ferrari stunned spectators with an impressive performance. Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz made headlines as they crossed the finish line in first and second place, respectively. Yet, Vasseur reminds fans that they shouldn’t anticipate a similar performance in Mexico. According to him, the race weekend in Mexico City poses significantly greater challenges.

Challenges Ahead in Mexico

“The upcoming race is unique on the F1 calendar, particularly due to the elevation, which presents substantial challenges regarding cooling for the brakes and engine,” Vasseur explained to the international media. The Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez circuit in Mexico City stands at an altitude of 2,285 meters above sea level, making it the highest F1 circuit in the world. The French team principal added, “I believe Brazil is likely to resemble Austin more closely,” offering a glimmer of hope to fans as they look forward to the third leg of the triple header.

Possibility of Qatar Upgrades

In Austin, Ferrari notably refrained from introducing significant updates to their car at the Circuit of the Americas. While this choice didn’t negatively impact their results, Vasseur revealed that the Scuderia is contemplating lighter upgrade packages for the SF-24 later in the season. “Regarding the upgrades, if we find viable options, we will strive to implement them,” stated the French team leader. “However, it’s more likely that these will come not for Vegas, but for Qatar.”

A Cautious Optimism for Fans

While the recent success in Austin may have ignited hope among the tifosi, the harsh realities of the sport remind us that each race presents its own set of obstacles. The unpredictable nature of Formula 1 means that while Ferrari has shown it can occasionally exceed expectations, navigating the intricacies of a high-altitude race in Mexico is no small feat. As Vasseur prepares the team for the challenges ahead, the possibility of upgrades in Qatar remains an encouraging prospect for fans eager to see their team excel.

With the fast-approaching races, all eyes are on how Ferrari will adapt and innovate. Their performance in Mexico could set the tone for the remainder of the season. The Scuderia must balance ambition with the realities of the racing environment, and fans will be watching closely.
