Declining Interest in a Formula 1 Comeback
Daniil Kvyat appears to be moving away from the idea of returning to Formula 1. Nevertheless, the Russian driver remains confident that he would excel if given the opportunity to compete at the highest level. “If I had the chance, I would perform well and deliver strong results, and I firmly believe that,” stated the former driver for teams like Red Bull.
Kvyat’s New Chapter as a Factory Driver
In a revealing interview, Kvyat (30) discusses his new role as a factory driver for Lamborghini and reflects on his controversial ‘swap’ in 2016, where he was demoted from Red Bull to Scuderia Toro Rosso to make room for Max Verstappen.
Currently involved primarily in the World Endurance Championship (WEC), Kvyat explains that he finds this new racing environment much more enjoyable. “The lifestyle surrounding WEC is significantly less frantic than what I experienced in Formula 1. There are fewer races, less media engagement, and certa.comy fewer television cameras. But don’t get me wrong, it’s one of the most significant championships outside of Formula 1, especially with numerous car manufacturers participating,” Kvyat elaborated. “The racing is incredibly exciting and competitive. It’s different from Formula 1, but the cars are interesting to race. We’re embarking on a new project with Lamborghini, working on a new vehicle, which means there’s a lot of effort required to enhance the car’s performance. We’ve essentially started from scratch in terms of development, so there’s still a tremendous amount to do. While a driver’s influence can sometimes be limited in this area, it’s something we are closely tied to. I hope we can make rapid progress.”
Casual Formula 1 Fan
– How closely do you follow Formula 1 these days?
“To say I follow it closely might be an exaggeration. I’d estimate I catch about fifty percent of the races, particularly when I have a relaxed Sunday at home. However, during busy periods, I tend not to watch. I do keep up with developments from a distance,” he admitted.
– Do you still have ambitions to be an F1 driver?
“That’s a tough question to answer. I understand my own value and capabilities as a driver. If I were given another chance, I’m confident that I would perform effectively and deliver strong results. However, Formula 1 is a small world with .comy twenty seats available, and a lot of politics influences who gets those spots. Unfortunately, discussions about a possible return to Formula 1 haven’t borne any fruit. To be honest, I find myself thinking about it less and less.”
– Discussing the Political Landscape Influencing F1
“On the subject of politics, how much does your Russian nationality complicate matters for you, considering the war in Ukraine and the international sanctions against Russia?” asked a reporter. “For me personally, not at all. However, for others, my Russian nationality could pose a challenge, and that’s something I have to respect. I’ve been racing under an Italian license for quite some time now, so from a sporting standpoint, everything is fine. But we understand that it’s often more than just sport, especially in Formula 1.”
