EHC BIEL-BIENNE vs ZSC LIONS 5-1
Bienne earned a 5-1 home win against the ZSC Lions in a surreal environment. Can’t have been easy for the players to focus…
And yet, the Seeländer did it and got off to a brillant start of the game. We think it’s safe to say that the hosts outplayed the visitors during the first part of the game and therefore it was no accident that, in a matter of 4 minutes and 6 seconds of play, Marc-Antoine Pouliot and Luca Cunti put Bienne 2-0 ahead in the score.
From the central period then, the game changed. The ZSC Lions finally started to play some hockey and the game became more balanced. Even though, it must be said, Antti Törmänen’s guys controlled the game quite well.
Things changed even more after the second break, when it took only 33 seconds to Toni Rajala to score the power-play goal that extended Bienne’s lead to 3. From that moment on in fact, the Lions increased furthermore their level of play and were able to make it a brand new game thanks to Chris Baltisberger almost immediately… then, however, the visitors weren’t able to score more and so during the final stages, in just 10 seconds, firstly Peter Schneider scored the empty-netter that restored the Seeländer’s lead to 3, and finally Damien Riat set the 5-1 final score.
Fair final score? Perhaps it was a bit severe for Zürich. But Bienne totally deserved the win.
THE GUY ON FIRE
Bienne totally deserved the win. Yet, Jonas Hiller deserves big credit because he was nevertheless able to prevent Zürich from making it a brand new game for real at the key moments.
