The first month of 2020 went to the records. Time, as usual, flies. Just like this basically non-existent winter that continues to “offer” us way too high temperatures. Mother Nature is surely grateful…

We instead, should be grateful to Mother Nature who gifted us with one of the best Swiss players in history. Andres Ambühl, the leading scorer of January 2020!

Let’s have a look at the top 10 National League leading scorers of the first month of 2020.

Data is from and doesn’t include the games played on Saturday, February 1st 2020.

“Evergreen” Andres Ambühl is the leading scorer of the month of January 2020 tied on points with Pius Suter.

Andres never ceases to amaze, and he can still make the difference even though he is 36. It’s interesting, moreover, the fact that Andres Ambühl is the leading scorer of Davos right now that the Ibexes are not at the top of their game. In other words, great players can make the difference when their teams are in trouble!

As said then, Pius Suter is first placed tied on points with Ambühl. The ZSC Lions’ forward is back at the top of his game. He already set his new record of points scored during a regular season and he keeps on delivering top notch performances.

After these two guys, three players follow third placed with 12 points. Denis Hollenstein, Eric Fehr and David McIntyre.

Denis Hollenstein is back being a points-scoring machine and is a real added value for the ZSC Lions. Eric Fehr is among the most underrated imports of the league… but now that he’s scoring more points, it’s likely that more people will notice him. David McIntyre for his part is the right man in the right place at the right time. He’s exactly the dominant center Lugano needed after Maxim Lapierre’s departure.

It’s curious, and interesting, to note that two defensemen made it to the top 10. Yannick Rathgeb, who is proving to be not “only” a great offensive defenseman but also a more complete player after his spell in North America. And Santeri Alatalo, one of the most precious defensemen of the league who’s been increasing his level of play lately.

Finally, let’s see each team’s top scorer of the month.
