It’s Monday, and just like every Monday it’s time to talk about the Ticino Rockets!
They say that perseverance pays off… and finally it happened also for the Ticino Rockets, that are coming off a great week!
THE GAMES OF LAST WEEK
HC Biasca Ticino Rockets vs EVZ Academy 3-2 (OT)
The Ticino Rockets won at home against the EVZ Academy for the first time after December 1st, 2017! And to say, the game got off to a bad start. The young Bulls in fact, took the lead thanks to Dominik Volejnicek after only 14 seconds of play. Then, however, Gregory Squires scored the tying goal shortly before the first break and Jerome Portmann turned the score around during the latest stages of the central period. The EVZ Academy then tied things up with Yannick Brunner shortly after the second break and that could have been a huge blow for the Rockets. And instead, Reinhard and Reuille’s guys fought hard and their efforts paid off during the overtime period, when Jerome Portmann scored the game winning goal!
HC La Chaux-de-Fonds vs HC Biasca Ticino Rockets 2-5
Reinhard and Reuille’s troops earned a prestigious 5-2 road win against La Chaux-de-Fonds, which means that they won at the Patinoire des Mélèzes for the first time in history! Also in this second game of the week, the early stages of the game were a disaster. In fact, it took only 7 minutes and 7 seconds to Brett Cameron to score two pp-goals for the hosts. Then, however, the Rockets reacted and made it a brand new game with Max Gerlach already before the first break. After that, it was Max Gerlach again who scored the tying goal during the early stages of the second period of play and then – between the second and the third period – Roberts Lee, Marc Camichel and Gregory Squires set the 5-2 final score!
OUR THOUGHT OF THE WEEK
Finally, some good news there for all to see!
When it comes to the Ticino Rockets, there are always good news. Suffice it to think about the club’s effort and suffice it to think about how many players played in Biasca and then made their mark in the National League. Such news, however, are unfortunately underrated by most people.
This last week instead, good news were there for all to see and let us say that the Ticino Rockets deserved to have such a week!
Finally the perseverance paid off. The Ticino Rockets won two consecutive games and this is not something that doesn’t happen very often!
11th placed Winterthur are now only 3 points in front. This fact must be a confidence booster for the Rockets. To avoid the bottom of the table position at the end of the regular season in fact, would be a godsend for the “mental” and the “morale” of the whole club.
It’s always ungenerous to talk about single players. Yet, there is no denying that the Rockets darn need the support from their imports. In this regard, both Max Gerlach and Gregory Squires are turning out point-scoring machines. Excellent!
Christian Stucki came back to play a hockey game on Saturday night in La Chaux-de-Fonds. That’s great news for the whole Ticino!
Road game… in Lugano
On Saturday, January 18th, at 4PM, there will be the great chance for whoever is living in the southern part of Ticino to show their support. The Ticino Rockets in fact, will host the GCK Lions at the Cornèr Arena!
We mean, this last week there were no excuses. Finally people could read some good news about the Ticino Rockets. The whole club deserved that!
There is another good news then, at least for us. Next week in fact, we’ll have the chance to assist to a training session of the Rockets and we will have the chance to talk to some of the guys of the group, including the coaching staff… there will be a special edition of the “Rockets’ Monday” about that!
Tuesday 14.01.2020 – HC Biasca Ticino Rockets vs HC Ajoie
The Rockets face Ajoie for the fourth time this season and for the second time in Biasca. The previous game played in Ticino saw the Rockets prevail while the previous two games played in Porrentruy saw Ajoie prevail. Ajoie are currently 3rd placed and won only 1 of their last 4 games played. However, they have the 3rd best away record of the Swiss League.
The Rockets won only 1 of the 15 games played against Ajoie in history. It happened earlier this season. We mean, it’s always a difficult game for the Ticinesi.
Saturday 18.01.2020 – HC Biasca Ticino Rockets vs GCK Lions (at the Cornèr Arena)
Ticino Rockets and GCK Lions face each other for the fourth time this season. So far, there has been no deal to make for the Rockets as the GCK Lions won all the previous season head to head. The Lions are in good shape and they won 5 of their last 8 games, including the last three consecutively. Also on the road they’re doing well, as it is evidenced by the fact that they won 5 of their last 8 away games.
The Rockets’ last home win against the GCK Lions dates back to December 30th, 2017. On that occasion in Biasca, the Ticino Rockets earned a 2-1 win thanks to the goals scored by Vladislav Zorin and Isacco Dotti. The visitors’ scorer was Dominik Hardmeier.
