It’s Monday, and just like every Monday it’s time to talk about the Ticino Rockets!

Unfortunately the Ticino Rockets got off to a bad start of 2020 in terms of results. Let’s see what happened during the first wekk of the new year.

THE GAMES OF LAST WEEK

SC Langenthal vs HC Biasca Ticino Rockets 3-1

The Ticino Rockets fought hard until the end but finally suffered a 3-1 road defeat againts Langenthal. Reinhard and Reuille’s troops almost immediately took the lead thanks to Max Gerlach… but the hosts almost immediately scored the tying goal thanks to Jan Wieszinski. Shortly before the half-an-hour mark then, Langenthal turned the score around with Vincenzo Küng and the score didn’t change until the final stages of the game, when the hosts set the 3-1 final score with the empty-netter of Dario Kummer.

HC Biasca Ticino Rockets vs SC Langenthal 1-9

The Rockets were in the game for about 45 minutes but finally suffered a very painful 9-1 home defeat. Langenthal took the lead with Dario Kummer during the first period and then extended it shortly before the half-an-hour mark with Simon Sterchi. Then, Jerome Portman made it a brand new game for the Rockets during the early stages of the last third… but after that, Langenthal scored with Dario Kummer (2), Fabio Kläy, Joey Benik (2), Ian Derungs, and Luca Christen and so set the 9-1 final score.

OUR THOUGHT OF THE WEEK

So close, and yet so far…

We wanted to take a cue from a request we had on twitter from the friends of Rockets. They asked us the Swiss League that takes only the games played between Ticino Rockets, GCK Lions, Winterthur, Sierre and EVZ Academy into consideration. These teams are, on paper, the ones who are destined to the last five position of the table. Here is that table…

The Ticino Rockets are, by far, the ones who earned less poins.

What we wanted to verify then, is the Swiss League table of the Ticino Rockets, GCK Lions, Winterthur, Sierre and EVZ Academy that takes into consideration all the games played against the other 7 teams of the Swiss League. The 7 strongest teams. And as we will see shortly, there are surprises…

It’s noteworthy that the Ticino Rockets aren’t the worst team of the league if we consider games against the strongest teams. But there is more. In fact, the Rockets are the only ones, among the five weakest teams of the league, who have a higher average points againt the best teams of the league compared to the average points against the five weakest teams of the league!

It’s noteworthy also to mention another post on social networks, the one of Edy Pironaci who said in instagram that the Rockets lost 17 games this season with only 1 goal difference (or with more goals difference but with the last one conceded empty-netter).

We mean, so close and yet so far. And don’t be fooled by the last 9-1 defeat suffered against Langenthal, because that defeat was the exception that proved the rule. And anyway, as we saw before, the Rockets were on the game until 15 minutes to the end against the Swiss League title holders!

Then again, we have to say it one more time. When you judge the Ticino Rockets, you can’t just look at the results or the number of consecutive defeats. It seems like the Rockets are so close to turn their impressive hard work into more points… and perhaps, it would help if the coaching staff can count on a roster without so many changes during the season.

One thing is sure though, the guys are very committed and deserve the support of all of us. Go Rockets, GO!

UP NEXT

Let’s see the next games…

Tuesday 07.01.2020 – HC Biasca Ticino Rockets vs EVZ Academy

Here is the first game to reverse the negative trend against opponents of a similar level. The Rockets face the young Bulls for the fourth time this season. They won the first game against them on the road but then lost the next two games. EVZ Academy are coming off 5 consecutive defeats and won only 2 of their last 10 games played on the road.

FUN FACT

The Ticino Rockets’ last home win against the EVZ Academy dates back to December 1st, 2017. On that occasion, the guys back then coached by Jan Cadieux, earned a 2-1 win thanks to the goals scored by Vladislav Zorin and Dario Rohrbach. The visitors’ scorer was Philip Rondahl.

Saturday 11.01.2020 – HC La Chaux-de-Fonds vs HC Biasca Ticino Rockets

Ticino Rockets and La Chaux-de-Fonds face each other for the fourth time this season. The Rockets had won the first head to head 7-3 at home but then lost the following two games 7-3 and 8-1. It will not be a walk in the park. La Chaux-de-Fonds won 3 of their last 4 games but at home lost 6 of their last 9.

FUN FACT

The Rockets won only 1 of the 15 games played in history against La Chaux-de-Fonds. And they never won on the road against them. Will this be the first time?
