Who cares about the Swiss Cup? We care. And certainly also the 6’100 fans in Rapperswil and the 2’500 fans in Ajoie care!
Now, the die is cast. The Swiss Ice Hockey Cup final will be between Davos and Ajoie.
SC Rapperswil-Jona Lakers vs HC Davos 1-4
Rapperswil and Davos gifted the fans with an enjoyable game. Rappi didn’t underperform, but we think it’s safe to say that the Ibexes were overall the better side. It’s as simple as that. Rappi got off to a good start of the game, they immediately had two power-play opportunities and during the second one the took the lead with Andrew Rowe. Then, however, Davos scored the tying goal already during the first period with Magnus Nygren. The game then was quite interesting and the Ibexes made the difference at a key moment… that is, shortly before the second break, when Marc Aeschlimann put them ahead. During the final third then, Fabrice Herzog and Marc Aeschlimann set the 4-1 final score and earned the final for Davos!
HC Ajoie vs EHC Biel-Bienne 4-3
What a game at the Voyeboeuf! Ajoie didn’t steal anything and actually proved to have an impressive character. The Seeländers in fact, took a 2-goals lead thanks to Toni Rajala (PP goal) and Luca Cunti (SH goal!) in a matter of 9 minutes and 52 seconds. We mean, it looked like a walk in the park for the National League side. Already during the first period though, Jonathan Hazen and Mathias Joggi tied things up and gave their home fans something to cheer about! During the central period then, Bienne restored their lead with Mike Künzle… but once again, Gary Sheehan’s troops proved to have some real character and scored they tying goal again with Jonathan Hazen! Anything could happen during the last period. And it happened that Nicolas Thibodeau earned Ajoie the win at 11 minutes to the end!
Up next, the final scheduled for February 2nd, 2020… when Ajoie and Davos will face each other for the title. Where? We don’t know yet…
