EHC BIEL-BIENNE vs SCL TIGERS 4-1
Bienne earned a 4-1 comeback win against Langnau. Overall, it was a deserved victory. We mean, we think it’s safe to say that oftentimes the Tigers were better, or at least more solid, at even strength… but we also think it’s safe to say that Bienne made the difference thanks to their talent, expressed mostly – finally – during power-play opportunities.
Heinz Ehlers’ guys got off to a very good start of the game and took the lead thanks to Harri Pesonen after 9 minutes and 4 seconds of play. Then, for good part of the game looked in better form.. but already during the first period it was clear that, as it is often the case, the Seeländers were able to make the difference at the key moments of the games. Let’s take what happened in the 13th minute of play for example. During the first power-play opportunity of the night in fact, Yannick Rathgeb scored the tying goal for the hosts.
Langnau reacted well though, and continuted to prove to be in a good shape. As the game went on, however, Antti Törmänen’s troops increased their level of play a lot… and were impressive especially during the third period of play.
After the second break in fact, the Seeländers were at the top of their game and scored two more power-play goals. Firstly they took the lead with Toni Rajala after 6 minutes and 26 seconds of play and then extended it with Mike Künzle at four minutes to the end!
At that point, the game was over. There was still time though, during the latest stages of the game, to see another goal. The empty-netter scored by Peter Schneider that set the 4-1 final score!
THE GUY ON FIRE
Jonas Hiller played a crucial role during the first part of the game to allow Bienne to stay in the game. We mean, the key saves at the key times. His performance was a confidence booster for the whole team, that increased its level of play as the game went on and finally won the game.
