Who said that ice hockey is only for men? Go and tell that to all the girls who, with passion, compete in this beautiful sport. Say that also to all the numerous girls and ladies who attend hockey games in Switzerland.
Finally, go and tell that to all those who, this November 16th, 2019, will take part in the Hockey Club Lugano initiative called “Ladies Night”.
For one night, they will be playing a leading role at the Cornèr Arena!
Oscar Wilde once said that between men and women there is no friendship possible. There is passion, enmity, worship, love, but no friendship. It’s a bit like the love for your favourite team. There is passion, at times even enmity, but when it comes to your favourite team, it’s everlasting love. It’s like a wedding that starts at some point of your life and stays alive till death do you part.
Then again, perhaps initiatives such as the one of Hockey Club Lugano are just the beginning of one true love for all those girls and ladies who perhaps for the first time in their life will attend an ice hockey game at the Cornèr Arena.
“Babe, I’m out for the evening, I’m going to enjoy the game of Lugano”. How many times you can hear this sentence at home on Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and at times even on Sunday? Well, on this Saturday November 16th, the lovely ladies will be able to respond “Honey, I’m also out for the evening, I’m going to watch the game of Lugano, and the club dedicates a night to me”.
It will be a night during which Lugano will host Langnau, a game that on paper sees the Bianconeri as the favourites. Even though, sifting through the latest head-to-head, we find out that the Tigers coached by Heinz Ehlers won 5 of the last 6 games against Lugano, including two on the road at the Cornèr Arena.
We mean, it’s time to reverse the trend for Lugano, that won the last time a home-game against Langnau on December 3rd, 2017, when they earned a 4-2 win thanks to the goals scored by Julian Walker and Luca Fazzini (hat-trick!)!
And always for Lugano, it’s also time to reverse the trend concerning the Ladies Night, an event that reached the fourth edition. If we take the first three editions into consideration in fact, we find out that the Bianconeri won only one time.
The first “Ladies Night” was organized on November 15th, 2016, and on that occasion, Lugano coached by Doug Shedden suffered a 5-2 home defeat against the ZSC Lions. Gregory Hofmann and Ryan Gardner scored the two goals for the hosts.
The second “Ladies Night” instead, was organized on September 26th, 2017, and on that occasion, Lugano coached by Greg Ireland suffered a 3-2 defeat, against Zug. The Bulls were able to turn the score around after that the host had taken a 2-goals lead thanks to Luca Fazzini and Gregory Hofmann.
The last “Ladies Night” finally, was organized on September 28th, 2018, and finally on that day came the first win for Lugano during a night dedicated to the fairer sex. Lugano hosted Lausanne and earned a 4-3 win thanks to the goals scored by Julien Vauclair, Raffaele Sannitz, Dario Bürgler and Gregory Hofmann.
And now, it’s time for Langnau to serve as the opponent. This night, whatever happens, will be a success. Therefore, we warmly invite all the girls and ladies to attend the game at the Cornèr Arena.
