This Sunday, October 20th, it’s Swiss Ice Hockey Cup day! 16 teams are still fighting and have every intention of making it to the quarterfinal stages. Six among these teams, and more precisely Langenthal, Bern, Bienne, Ambrì-Piotta, Davos and Lugano… play the games at a unusual (and absurd) time to say the least. That is, between 13:00 and 13:30.

Let’s skip it though… and see which games are scheduled!

SC LANGENTHAL vs SC BERN

13:00

Langenthal are on fire, they’re currently 2nd placed in the Swiss League table and are coming off 8 consecutive wins. Bern on the other hand are struggling to earn positive results and won only 3 of their last 11 games. These are the premises of this game… do you think Langenthal can actually shock the world and make it to the next round?

Previous Swiss Ice Hockey Cup head to head

30.09.2015 / SC Langenthal vs SC Bern 2-3

Langenthal and Bern faced each other during the 2015-16 Swiss Cup at the 1/16 Final stages and the bears struggled but prevailed. Langenthal in fact went 2-0 ahead with Brent Kelly and Philip Ahlström. After that, however, Ramon Untersander, Pascal Berger and Chuck Kobasew earned the win for the favourite Bern.

EHC BIEL-BIENNE vs HC AMBRÌ-PIOTTA

13:30

Bienne lost their last game in Davos but are overall in good form. Ambrì-Piotta for their part won their last game in Langnau and are having some ups and downs in terms of results. One thing is sure, the games between Seeländers and Leventinesi are becoming a classic of Swiss hockey… and generally, Bienne prevail. Just like during last season playoffs or just like in most of the cases during the regular season. We mean, Antti Törmänen’s troops are the favourites. Even though, the Biancoblù won the last regular season game (3-1) last month.

Bienne and Ambrì-Piotta face each other in the Swiss Cup for the first time. We mean, something new 🙂

HC DAVOS vs HC LUGANO

13:30

Davos are doing great… they lost only 2 of their last 6 games and are coming off the well-deserved win earned against Bienne. Lugano for their part looked less convincing compared to the first part of the season, but delivered an excellent performance on Friday in Bern and earned a 5-2 win. We mean, on paper, the game between Davos and Lugano is very balanced. To note that earlier this season, Lugano and Davos faced each other at the Cornèr Arena and the Ibexes earned an away win.

Previous Swiss Ice Hockey Cup head to head

Davos and Lugano never played each other in the Swiss Ice Hockey Cup. Partially also because the Bianconeri never made it through the 1/8 Final stages…

ZSC LIONS vs GENÈVE SERVETTE HC

15:30

The ZSC Lions are arguably the ones who are playing the best hockey in the National League… Genève Servette on the other hand, are the ones who are putting an out of the ordinary team spirit on display. The two teams already faced each other during the regular season and, at les Vernets, the Eagles earned a 3-0 win. Will Patrick Emond’s troops be able to win once agian?

ZSC Lions and Genève Servette never faced each other in the Swiss Cup. Good luck for this first time 🙂

SC RAPPERSWIL-JONA LAKERS vs HC FRIBOURG GOTTÉRON

15:45

Rapperswil are a Swiss Cup master… they already won this competition once and were the silver medalists last season. Moreover, the Lakers are in good form and are a tough nut to crack as we could all see on Friday night in Zug. Gottéron for their part are currently capable of everything and its opposite… and they’re coming off the home defeat suffered against the ZSC Lions. We mean, also this game on paper is very balanced!

Rapperswil and Fribourg Gottéron never faced each other in the Swiss Cup. Good luck for this first time 🙂

EHC OLTEN vs SCL TIGERS

15:45

Olten have room for improvement. They’re currently 6th placed in the Swiss League table but nevertheless won 3 of their last 5 games. Langnau for their part are improving and proved that in the last two games against ZSC Lions and Ambrì-Piotta despite the two defeats suffered. One thing is sure though… on paper, the game between Olten and Langnau can turn out to be great!

Previous Swiss Ice Hockey Cup head to head

29.10.2014 / SCL Tigers vs EHC Olten 3-2 (OT)

Back in 2014, Langnau and Olten faced each other at the 1/8 Final stages… the Tigers struggled but finally earned a 3-2 overtime win thanks to the goals scored by Tom Gerber, Kevin Hecquefeuille and Thomas Nüssli. Olten’s scorers instead were Fabian Ganz and Robin Leone.

HC AJOIE vs LAUSANNE HC

17:30

Ajoie are on fire… they won 8 of their last 10 games and are currently at the top of the Swiss League table! Lausanne on the other hand, are very solid but are having some ups and downs… the Lions Vaudois are coming off the defeat suffered in Genève. We mean, it would be very dangerous for Ville Peltonen’s troops to underestimate Ajoie!

Previous Swiss Ice Hockey Cup head to head

Ajoie vs Lausanne… that’s a classic in the Swiss Ice Hockey Cup! These two teams already faced each other three times. Two times Lausanne prevailed while once Ajoie prevailed.

28.09.2016 – HC Ajoie vs Lausanne HC 4-5

Lausanne darn struggled but finally earned a 5-4 win thanks to the goals scored by Thomas Deruns, Nicklas Danielsson (2), Joël Genazzi and Etienne Froideveaux. Ajoie’s scorers instead, were Steven Macquat, Victor Barbero, Leonardo Fuhrer and Giacomo Casserini.

19.09.2017 – HC Ajoie vs Lausanne HC 4-2

What a day that was for Ajoie who earned a 4-2 win at the 1/16 Final stages. The hosts’ scorers were Arnaud Montandon, Giacomo Casserini, Philip-Michael Devos and Jonathan Hazen. For the visitors instead, Yannick Herren and Johnny Kneubuehler scored the two goals.

18.09.2018 – HC Ajoie vs Lausanne HC 2-7

That time there was no deal to make for Ajoie. Lausanne in fact earned a clear 7-2 win thanks to the goals scored by Christoph Bertschy (hat-trick), Dustin Jeffrey, Joël Vermin, Dario Trutman and Ronalds Kenins. The hosts’ scorers were Jonathan Hazen and Philip-Michael Devos.

EHC VISP vs EV ZUG

17:45

Visp are a great Swiss League club and are on fire. This is evidenced by the fact that they’re currently third placed on the table and, most and above all, by the fact that they are coming off 7 consecutive wins. Zug for their part are, on paper, the strongest team in Switzerland. Nevertheless, at times the Bulls fail to earn positive results… just like the other night against Rapperswil. We mean, on paper Zug are the favourites. But be careful to Visp who, in their brand-new and fantastic Lonza Arena, have every intention of making the National League club’s life difficult!

Previous Swiss Ice Hockey Cup head to head

Visp and Zug never faced each other in the Swiss Cup. Good luck to you both 🙂
