Bienne and Klagenfurt are currently at the top of the Group A table and face each other tonight in Austria and then next October 15th at the Tissot Arena. Both teams, however, must be careful because Tappara Tampere are third placed with only 3 points less… we mean, the next two games put very important points at stake and the Seeländers must try their hardest to win tonight so to be more relaxed in view of the last game of the group stage.

Let’s get to know more about the Austrian side…

LAST SEASON

Klagenfurt qualified for the Champions Hockey League as the EBEL 2018-19 Champions thanks to the win in the final against the Vienna Capitals, former team of the current player of Bienne Peter Schneider.

The Austrian side is by now a big teatm in the EBEL… they made it to the final 8 times in the last 16 seasons and won 4 times the title.

THE COACH

Petri Matikainen

Pettri Matikainen is coaching KAC Klagenfurt for the second consecutive season. The 52 years old Finn won the EBEL at the first attempt… previously, he’d coached in the Liiga (Pelicans, Blues, HIFK), in the KHL (Avangard Omsk and Slovan Bratislava) and in the EBEL (Graz 99ers other than obviously Klagenfur). Between 2003 and 2012, moreover, he was past of he staff of the Finnish national team as assistant coach, first of the U20 and then of the first team.

To note that in 2008 and in 2011 he won the best coach of the Liiga award. Back then he led two times the Blues all the way to the final but both times won “only” the silver medal.

KAC KLAGENFURT WELL KNOWN PLAYERS

Ramón Schnetzer

The 23 years old Ramón Schnetzer never played in the National League… but he played in the U17-Elit with the Piker Oberthurgau between 2012 and 2014, where by the way he also played alongside the former Bienne Dominik Egli. Moreover, between 2014 and 2016 he also played for the U20-Elit of Kloten.

After the three years spent in Switzerland, he came back to Austria where he played only and only for Klagenfurt.

Johannes Bischofberger

Johannes Bischofberger is a 25 years old guy who played in Switzerland between 2006 and 2006, when he wore the jerseys of Rheintal (U15 and U17), Uzwil (U17) and Piker Oberthurgau (U17-Elit). Over the years in our country he had the chance to play with several players who made it to professionalism, including a certain Kevin Fiala.

After he came back to Austria for a couple of years, Johannes returned to Switzerland. Where he played for Davos (U20-Elit) and Thurgau (NLB). After that, he came back again to Austria but this time for good, and he joined Klagenfurt.

In the past, however, he also played in Switzerland. In fact, he played 2 games with Reinthal U20 during the 2006-07 season and he tallied 4 points (1 goal, 3 assists).
