LAUSANNE HC vs HC AMBRÌ-PIOTTA 3-1
Lausanne earned a 3-1 home win against Ambrì-Piotta and therefore won their second game in history at the Vaudoise Arena!
Frankly speaking, in our opinion, last night’s game wasn’t a very good one. Perhaps the greatest emotion came before the first puck drop, when the Lions Vaudois retired the number of the legend Cristobal Huet. For the rest, it was a balanced game during which only at times the two teams were able to increase their level of play.
The first period was some sort of uneventful snooze-festival. Lions Vaudois and Leventinesi played a very tactical game and scoring chances were very rare. Things changed a little instead after the first break… also because Fabio Hofer, during a power-play situation, scored the first goal of the night that revived the game!
We mean, we’re not saying that suddenly the game became an exciting one… yet, the game became at least more enjoyable compared to the first 20 minutes of play. Both teams had their scoring opportunities during the second third, but the only another goal came shortly after the half-an-hour mark, when Benjamin Antonietti equalized for the hosts.
The early stages of the third period then were a show… Luca Cereda’s guys immediately had the glorious chance to restore their lead, but after just few seconds Lukas Frick put Lausanne ahead for the first time of the night as he scored the goal that, with hindsight, turned out to be the crucial one.
The Leventinesi in fact, tried to make it a brand new game. But it’s safe to say that the Lions Vaudois handled the situation very well and finally set the 3-1 final score thanks to Christoph Bertschy empty-netter.
THE GUY ON FIRE
Lukas Frick scored his first goal of the season and that couldn’t come at a better time for Lausanne… We mean, regardless of his performance, his goal that gave the lead to Lausanne turned out to be decisive in every way.
