HC AMBRÌ-PIOTTA vs HC LUGANO 1-2

01.10.2019

Lugano earned a 2-1 win against Ambrì-Piotta on the road and therefore won the first derby of the season!

The game between the two Ticinesi wasn’t very spectacular but it was surely intense. And the final score, could have been even bigger in the Bianconeri’s favour. Right, because Sami Kapanen’s troops – as they got us used to by now… – delivered an excellent performance during the first period and took the lead thanks to Dominic Lammer’s power-play goal scored after 5 minutes and 32 seconds of play.

Meanwhile, Lugano used us also to the fact that they can’t take fully advantage of their best moments… and in this case, it was Ambrì-Piotta who were able to exploit the situation shortly before the first break, when Brian Flynn scored the tying goal.

The tying goal could have been a huge blow for the visitors and a shot of adrenaline for the hosts… and so it was, at least partially. Because the Leventinesi increased their level of play after the first break and were able to put the Bianconeri under pressure.

The Bianconeri, however, are turning out to be more and more mature… and all in all, they never really panicked. Actually, they even had some scoring chances and converted one of them with Raffaele Sannitz shortly after the half-an-hour mark!

Few minutes later, the hosts scored another tying goal but the refs disallowed it after the video review… and that, was actually the last noteworthy episode of the game. Because during the third period Lugano handled the situation perfectly and even had enough chances to score more. Ambrì-Piotta on the other hand, only at times were dangerous in the offensive zone… but finally, they didn’t do enough to win this game.

THE GUY ON FIRE

Taylor Chorney

Taylor Chorney can improve his power-play performance… but once again his performance was top notch! He was solid and resourceful, calm and precise.
