HC AMBRÌ-PIOTTA vs HC LUGANO
SEASON HEAD TO HEAD
Ambrì-Piotta are coming off the 5-3 away defeat suffered against the ZSC Lions that followed the two wins earned against Bienne and Langnau. The Leventinesi won “only” 2 of their 7 games of the season… but especially during the last three games, they performed quite well and put the same intensity in the game like last season. In other words, Luca Cereda’s guys are back being an opponent very difficult to defeat unless you’re at the top of your game.
Lugano are coming off the 4-3 overtime win earned against Bienne on the road that followed the 2-1 overtime defeat suffered against Genève Servette. Sami Kapanen’s troops won 2 of their last 3 games… and those were the “only” two wins of the season so far after 6 games. The important thing is, however, the improvement. The Bianconeri proved capable of playing, at least at times, a hockey that can confuse the opponents. That’s the kind of hockey they need tonight if they want to win… and they need that for 60 minutes.
It’s likely that if the derby goes over the 60th minute of play, Ambrì-Piotta will win it. That is, the home side. In fact, the last 6 times a derby went over the 60th minute of play, the home team always prevailed. The last time the away team won a derby that went over the 60th minute of play was Lugano on February 28th, 2014. On that day, at the Valascia, the Bianconeri earned a 2-1 overtime win. Julian Walker put the visitors ahead and then Alexandre Giroux equalized for the hosts. Finally though, Raffaele Sannitz earned Lugano the win thanks to his goal scored 3 minutes and 50 seconds into the overtime period.
