Fribourg Gottéron are coming off a disappointing season in terms of results as they missed the playoffs.

Therefore, it was sort of clear that Mark French’s troops would change quite a lot. In our opinion, they did very well to improve the team. Let’s get down to the details…

Ryan Gunderson Brynäs IF

THE BEST ADDITION

Ryan Gunderson

Obviously David Deschernais – who’s coming back to Fribourg – and Viktor Stalberg are great additions… In our opinion, however, Ryan Gunderson is the best transfer. He’s been one of the best defensemen in the SHL (Swedish Hockey League) for years and he even earned the nickname “Mr. Perfect” thanks to his professionalism. On paper, such a player is the real deal. If you want to know more about him, don’t miss his portrait…

Ryan Gunderson – Let’s get to know more about the new “Mr. Perfect” of Fribourg Gottéron!

THE BIGGEST LOSS

Jonas Holos

We have the impression that Jonas Holos was underrated… We mean, if you’re looking for an offensive defenseman who can be a scoring machine, Jonas is not your guy. Instead, if you’re looking for a rock solid defensive defenseman, Jonas is the one you want on your team. Perhaps he was not always at the top of his game in Fribourg… but we think that the Dragons will miss him.

THE POTENTIAL SURPRISE

Jérémie Kamerzin

It’s likely that the name “Jérémie Kamerzin” doesn’t make the fans salivating… yet, we’re talking about a solid defensive defenseman who always did a good job and collected over 350 NLA appearances. Moreover, he won two titles with Bern… and three NLB titles, one with Bienne and one with Lausanne. We mean, Jérémie knows what to play for a winning team means and that’s important.

OUR COMMENT

Last season Fribourg Gottéron had problems during power-play opportunities… and well, what can we say? The additions of the four new imports – Viktor Stalberg, David Descharnais, Ryan Gunderson and Danie Brodin – suggest that, on paper, the problem is solved. In fact, overall, the Dragons have now an impressive potential when it comes to offensive play!

One can have doubts about the defense though… Jonas Holos departure is hard to digest and the player wasn’t really replaced. Moreover, the departures of Jim Slater (and his charisma) and Laurent Meunier (who hung up his skates) are not to be underestimated. Especially Laurent Meunier, always gave his heart and soul and we’re pretty sure he was even an example to follow in the dressing room.

Anyway, all things considered, we think it’s safe to say that Gottéron did a great job this summer. Lately, moreover, the club even extended Reto Berra’s contract. We mean, the Dragons will play in their new arena very soon… and on paper, they’re building a team capable of aiming high!
