BRONZE MEDAL GAME
RUSSIA vs CZECH REPUBLIC 3-2 (SO)
Russia earned a 3-2 shootouts win against Czech Republic and therefore is the gold medalist of the 2019 Worlds!
Czech Republic tried everything… and we think it’s safe to say that the game turned into some sort of “Czech vs Andrei Vasilevski” for most of the time… with the latter who played a crucial role for the Russians’ win.
The Russians took the lead after 13 minutes of play with Mikhail Grigorenko… always during the first period though, the Czech were able to turn the score around with Michal Repik and Dominik Kubalik. During the early stages of the central period then, Artyom Anisimov equalized for Russa and from that moment on the “Sbornaja”’s goalie became like a wall in front of the net.
The score didn’t change during the remaining two periods of play and not even during the overtime period. And so, shootouts were required to establish the winner between Czech Republic and Russia… the Russian’s goalie once again was perfect, while Ilya Kovalchuk and Nikita Gusev earned the bronze medal for Russia!
