SEMIFINAL – GAME-7 – 09.04.2019

SC BERN vs EHC BIEL-BIENNE – PostFinance Arena – 20:00

Bern were up against the wall and instead were able to gift themselves with the opportunity to play game-7 in front of their own fans. It’s safe to say that the Bears crawled out of their cave with a paw… and gave the Seeländers a scratch. A scratch that was enough to win game-6 with a 1-0 final score. And now, Kari Jalonen’s troops can play this “do or die” game in high spirits!

WHAT WORKS

The character

Bern were 0-2 behind in the series and came back 2-2. Then they lost game-5 but when were up against the wall they reacted and went to win on the road in Bienne. We mean, Kari Jalonen’s guys proved to have ice in their veins and proved to have some real character. This is great and crucial, even more so in view of game-7 when mental strength will be the key factor!

WHAT CAN IMPROVE

Home results

Bern’s home record of the 2019 playoffs is catastrophic. 6 home games – three played against Genève Servette and three against Bienne – only 2 wins and 4 losses. It’s a huge problem considering that game-7 is scheduled right at the PostFinance Arena. We mean, it’s safe to say that the “home advantage” is turning out to be some sort of “disadvantage” for the Bears.

THE PLAYER “ON FIRE”

Leonardo Genoni

Leonardo Genoni is doing great in this semifinal and during game-6 he’s been literally on fire. One can say that he “stole” the game… and this is something that only great goalies can do!

Bienne missed a great opportunity to write history in front of their own fans on Saturday night. But it’s not the right time to think about that now… the Seeländers already proved capable of winning in Bern. They already proved capable of winning key games. We mean, they already proved capable of reaching the playoffs time for the first time in history!

WHAT WORKS

Scoring chances

Bienne are able to create many clear scoring chances during each game. The Seeländers are solid and highly organized but at the same time they become unpredictable in the offensive zone. This is something that puts Bern in a tight spot.

WHAT CAN IMPROVE

Power-play

Bern are very disciplined and are not assessed many penalties. During the few power-play situations, however, the Seeländers must become more effective. Antti Törmänen’s troops are able to enter the offensive zone quite well and even move the puck around decently… but make way too many mistakes and are unable to score.

THE PLAYER “ON FIRE”

Jonas Hiller

Jonas Hiller conceded only 1 goal on Saturday night… that unfortunately cost the game. But overall, Jonas already proved capabel of “stealing” games. We mean, tonight it’s gonna be a great duel between Hiller and Genoni!
