SC BERN – EHC BIEL-BIENNE

Tonight at the PostFinance Arena a brand new best-of-three series will start! Bern were able to get back in the game after that they lost the first two… Bienne for their part wasted two opportunities to earn a match point… tonight, however, it will start everything again from zero. Even though the Bears clearly have the momentum on their favour.

SEMIFINAL – GAME-5 – 04.04.2019

SC BERN vs EHC BIEL-BIENNE – PostFinance Arena – 20:00

Bern have been proving to have some real character over the last two games and were able to make it a brand new series. What matters most, however, it’s the fact that it looks like finally Jalonen’s troops entered the playoffs mode. Right now the Bears have the psychological edge and have the momentum in their favour… this is a good thing but at the same time a very dangerous double edged sword.

WHAT DID WORK

Power-play

Regardless of the aesthetic… Bern is turning out to be merciless during power-play opportunities. So far the Bears had 12 power-play opportunities and scored 6 goals. We mean, that’s a 50% efficiency and it’s remarkable!

WHAT CAN IMPROVE

To kill the games

Don’t be deceived by the two large 6-2 and 5-2 wins… Bern in fact, in both games, were able to seal the wins only during the latest stages of the games. The Bears should kill the games earlies in order to prevent Bienne from staying in the game until the end.

THE PLAYER “ON FIRE”

Jan Mursak

During the last two games Jan Mursak played as a center between Ebbett and Grassi… and now, the second offensive line of Bern is a real pain in the neck to Bienne. Jan Mursak played a big role for that and he can become the hero of the series!

Bienne wasted a 2-0 lead in the series exactly like 12 months ago. Dynamics, however, are completely different compared to the semifinal played against Lugano… therefore, we assume that the Seeländers will not play with last season’s semifinal in their heads. Then again, it’s not gonna be easy to win two more games against the Bears who got out of their den. Antti Törmänen’s troops, however, have all it takes to do it!

WHAT DID WORK

Scoring chances

Bienne are able to create many clear scoring chances in each game and this is very important. The Seeländers are highly organized yet unpredictable in the offensive one… then sure, it would be helpful if some player could screen Leonardo Genoni more often.

WHAT CAN IMPROVE

Penalty-killing

Bern are turning out to be extremely effective during power-play situations… at the same time though, Bienne must become better penalty-killers. We mean, the Seeänders are paying a high price for penalties.

THE PLAYER “ON FIRE”

Damien Brunner

Damien Brunner is always able, one way or another, to put the puck in the net. He’s back being a real sniper like old times. Moreover, he brings in a lot of energy and his winning mindset can help Bienne to regain the advantage in the series.
