SC BERN – EHC BIEL-BIENNE

We’re back at the PostFinance Arena for game-3 of the playoffs semifinal Bern vs Bienne. There has been no deal to make for the Mutzen so far and the Seeländers are deservedly 2-0 ahead on overall. Will Törmänen’s guys win tonight and therefore earn 3 match points? Or… will Bern win the first game and therefore make it a brand new series?

SEMIFINAL – GAME-3 – 30.03.2019

SC BERN vs EHC BIEL-BIENNE – PostFinance Arena – 20:00

Let’s not beat around the bush… Bern is disappointing. At the same time, however, there is no denying that Bienne are an extremely tough nut to crack. In our opinion though, the impression is that the Bears haven’t yet really switched to “playoffs mode” and the clock is ticking since tonight they will play game-3 of the semifinal…

WHAT DID WORK

Power-play

Finally Bern are able to be effective during power-play situations. It’s true that there is room for improvement… but at least now the Bears can put the puck in the net as it is evidenced by the 40% power-play efficiency recorded on overall during the first two games of the semifinal.

WHAT CAN IMPROVE

Playoffs mode

You can’t say that Bern are underperforming or that the players are not committed. The truth is, however, that the Bears aren’t yet in playoffs mode and this is a problem. During playoffs you should always go beyond your limit… Jalonen’s troops performances were enough to get rid of Genève Servette at the quarterfinals stage but against Bienne it’s not enough.

THE PLAYER “ON FIRE”

Thomas Ruefenacht

There is something positive for Bern… the fact that Thomas Ruefenacht tallied two points during the first two games of the semifinal. When it comes to charisma and personality, Thomas – who’s a playoffs animal – is pivotal for Bern’s chances of success.

Bienne are in the same exact situation of 12 months ago… therefore please, the supersticious among you are required to touch wood. However, Bienne now look more mature compared to 12 months ago… and let us not forget that the team is even stronger. The first two semifinal games were excellent and the Seeländers only need to keep it up.

WHAT DID WORK

Performances

When it comes to performances, Bienne were better than Bern, point. The players are extremely committed, they’re solid in the defensive zone and precise and unpredictable in the offensive zone. Moreover, the Seeländers never give up and this allowed them to equalize at the last gasp in game-2… before winning the game in the overtime period.

WHAT CAN IMPROVE

Kill the games

During game-1, Bienne almost burned away a 3-goals lead… during game-2, the Seeländers immediately took the lead but then almost immediately conceded the equalizer. If there is something that is not working, in our opinion, it’s the fact that Bienne should always kill the games whenever possible.

THE PLAYER “ON FIRE”

Toni Rajala

He scored twice in game-1… he scored the overtime game winning goal in game-2… 3 goals in two games and he could have even scored more. Toni Rajala is on fire but this is nothing new… in Bienne fans are salivating!
