Genève Servette HC – SC Bern 2-3 (OT3)
Our game summary, the key player, video highlights and game statistics.
Bern earned a 3-2 overtime win against Genève Servette at les Vernets thanks to Mark Arcobello goal scored after 117 minutes and 43 seconds!!!
Therefore, Bern made it to the semifinals and there won’t be any game-7… even though, in reality, Eagles and Mutzen already played game-7 last night. We mean, in one evening, we could assist to game-6 and game-7 together and have a proof of what ice hockey is all about!
And just to say, not many could imagine to attend to such a long game. Bern in fact, scored their first two power-play goals of this series and took a 2-goals lead. Firstly Adam Almquist opened the scored during the first period and then André Heim scored the second goal at 12 minutes and a half to the end of the game.
Genève were not underperforming, but the fact is that the Mutzen were extremely solid and looked like they could win the game without too much fuss. Once again, however, Chris McSorley’s troops achieved a miracle… since during the last 46 seconds of the game, they were able to equalize thanks to the goals scored by Tommy Wingels and Daniel Winnik!
From that moment on, it’s safe to say that game-7 started… three overtime periods during which firstly the teams had their chances, and then tiredness – a lot of tiredness – came out.
It became a night for real men and both teams, just like the many supporters who stayed at les Vernets until the end, deserve a big round of applause. A night that came to an end 17 minutes and 43 seconds into the third overtime period, when Mark Arcobello (who else?!) scored the game winning goal and earned the semifinals for Bern!
Whoever was at les Vernets last night – players, coaching staff, fans, volunteers – deserve a big round of applause!
