HC Fribourg Gottéron – SC Rapperswil-Jona Lakers 1-4
Our game summary, the key player, video highlights and game statistics.
Rapperswil earned a 4-1 win in Fribourg and therefore won their second away game of the season!
A well-deserved win, point. Jeff Tomlinson’s troops delivered their best away performance of the season in our opinion. Especially during the first two periods of play they were solid in defense and cold-blooded in the offensive zone. This is something that bodes very well for the playouts final.
Overall, the first period was quite balanced. Fribourg Gottéron were not like the ones we could admire on Friday night in Bern though… and Rapperswil, even with their limits, did a strong job and took the lead thanks to Jan Mosimann after 14 minutes and 5 seconds of play.
During the central period we were expecting a vehement reaction from the hosts… in vain. Also because the visitors were extremely united and solid, and this made Gottéron’s life very hard. Moreover, as we said, Rappi were cold-blooded in the offensive zone and this allowed them to go with a 3-goals lead to the second break thanks to the goals scored by Casey Wellmann and Dion Knelsen (power-play) between the 36th and the 39th minute of play.
We then had to wait a lot before the third period started, that’s because of a problem with the ice. Fribourg Gottéron then came back with every intention to make it a brand new game… but their pressure led only to the consolation goal scored by Jim Slater in the 45th minute. The Lakers for their part never panicked, they defended themselves well and set the 4-1 final score during the latest stages thanks to Casey Wellmann’s empty-netter!
Melvin Nyffeler (SC Rapperswil-Jona Lakers)
Melvin Nyffeler conceded only 1 goal in the last 120 minutes against Fribourg Gottéron… also at the BCF Arena, especially during the first period and during the third period, he was able to make the right saves at the right time.
