Genève Servette HC – SC Rapperswil-Jona Lakers 3-2 (OT)
Our game summary, the key player, video highlights and game statistics.
Genève Servette earned a 3-2 overtime home win against Rapperswil but the newly-promoted side proved once again an indigestible opponent for the Eagles…
At the end of the game, Jeff Tomlinson’s troops could surely sorrow because of the defeat but at the same time their performance was decent and solid. Chris McSorley’s troops for their part, surely didn’t deliver their best performance of the season. Yet, the win was crucial therefore, for this time, it’s ok like that.
The first period ended goalless. The hosts had more scoring opportunities also because the visitors were quite undisciplined. 8 minutes and 14 seconds into the second period then, Rapperswil took the lead thanks to Daniel Kristo and probably at that moment the fans of “les Vernets” started to think about some sort of “curse”.
During the first 12 minutes of the third period, however, Jeremy Wick and Tommy Wingels made their fans breath a huge sigh of relief thanks to their two goals that gave the lead to the Eagles!
Game over, you’d say…
Nope! Because shortly after Wingels’ power-play goal, Goran Bezina was assessed a 2 minutes minor penalty and Casey Wellmann equalized for Rapperswli!
The home fans probably started to think again about a “curse”… and instead, during the overtime period, Kevin Clark was assessed a 2 minutes minor penalty and Genève Servette took advantage of that with Tommy Wingels who scored power-play the game winning goal!
Tommy Wingels (Genève Servette HC)
Tommy Wingels is turning out to be some sort of scoring machine!
