NATIONAL LEAGUE GAME DAY – January 11, 2019
The National League is back after a couple of days of break and 5 games are scheduled for tonight. Only Fribourg Gottéron and Ambrì-Piotta can enjoy a free friday night… these two teams, however, will have to play saturday evening and sunday afternoon.
Let’s get down to the details of tonight’s games though.
HC Davos – SC Bern
Davos and Bern face each other only for the second time this season. The previous seasonal head to head played at the PostFinance Arena ended with a 4-1 win for the Mutzen.
The Ibexes looked better before Christmas… but they got off to a terrible start of 2019. 4 games, 4 losses. Vitolinsh’s troops are preparing themselves for the playouts and have an extremely poor home record… in fact, they won only 2 of their 15 games played at the Vaillant Arena. Bern for their part got off to a great start of the new year: 4 games, 4 wins. 12 goals scored, 2 goals against. Jalonen’s troops are on fire!
Genève Servette HC – SC Rapperswil-Jona Lakers
Genève Servette and Rapperswil face each other for the third time this season and the final scores of the previous two heads to heads are surprising… the Lakers in fact, won two times out of two against the Eagles this season. First they won 4-3 at home and then 3-1 away.
The newly-promoted side seems to feel very comfortable when it has to face Genève Servette. Suffice it to say that the Lakers won 2 of their total 5 games this season against this opponent. Moreover, they earned their only away win this season right at les Vernets. Having said that, it’s gonna be tough tonight… Jeff Tomlinson’s troops are coming off 7 consecutive defeats. The Eagles for their part are in a very good shape. They won their last game in Davos 4-3 and overall they won 5 of their last 6 games.
HC Lugano – ZSC Lions
Lugano and ZSC Lions face each other for the third time this season and for the second time at the Cornèr Arena. So far in the seasonal heads to heads, the home advantage turned out to be crucial… the Bianconeri won at home 5-3 back in early november while the Lions won 7-4 at the Hallenstadion only a couple of days ago.
Lugano have every intention to get back to winning ways tonight… Greg Ireland’s troops look very justifiably nervous and are coming off 3 consecutive defeats. Three games during which they scored 10 goals but conceded as many as 17! Serge Aubin’s guys for their part recently confirmed their improvements in terms of attitude and fighting spirit. Not for nothing, they won 3 of their 4 games played in 2019.
It’s gonna be a very tough game tonight in Lugano…
SCL Tigers – EHC Biel-Bienne
Langnau and Bienne face each other for the third time this season and for the second time at the Ilfishalle. So far there was no deal to make for the Tigers against the Seeländers… Bienne in fact, won both two previous seasonal heads to heads. Firstly they won 5-3 away and then 3-2 after shootouts at home.
Heinz Ehlers’ troops are coming off the 2-5 away defeat suffered in Ambrì and they only had a decent start in 2019… this is evidenced by the fact that they won only 1 game out of 3. The Tigers, however, are always extremely organized and are a tough nut to crack. Same goes for Bienne… Antti Törmänen’s troops won only 1 game out of 3 in 2019. Yet, oftentimes their performances are very good. However, it’s time to get back to win games with continuity.
EV Zug – Lausanne HC
Zug and Lausanne face each other tonight for the third time this season. So far there was no deal to make for the Bulls against Lausanne… the Lions Vaudois in fact, won both two previous seasonal heads to heads. Firstly they won 4-2 at home and then 4-1 at the Bossard Arena.
Zug, however, are great. Dan Tangnes’ troops won 3 of their last 4 games. Moreover, they won all the last 5 home games. Ville Peltonen’s troops for their part are coming off two consecutive wins that put to an end a 3-games losing streak. To note that Lausanne’s recent away record is dramatic… the Lions Vaudois in fact, lost all their last 6 away games.
Good luck to all the teams and enjoy guys!
