Grasshopper Club Zürich – FC St. Gallen 2-1
Our match report, the key player, video highlights and match statistics.
Grasshopper earned a crucial 2-1 home win against St. Gallen and, therefore, they won 2 consecutive games for the first time this season!
This win is a godsend for Thorsten Fink’s troops… but it’s also a win that must be taken with a grain of salt.
The match of the Letzigrund can be divided in two parts. The first part: the first half. The second part? Well, obviously, the second half.
The first half was in Grasshopper’s favour. Were the Hoppers on fire or St. Gallen underperformed? Well, as it is often the case, reality lies somewhere in the middle. And the fact is that the hosts were able to take a 2-goals lead in a matter of 14 minutes thanks to Julien Ngoy and Nedim Bajrami! St. Gallen reacted, right, but it was not enough to get back in the game.
The second half then, was totally in St. Gallen’s favour. Were Zeidler’s troops on fire or Grasshopper underperformed? Also in this case, probably, the reality lies somewhere in the middle.
And the truth is that, once again, St. Gallen are able to deliver excellent performances only for “half of the match”. This time, like many others – and like too many times – it wasn’t enough to earn the 3 points. Right, because despite the countless scoring chances, only Tranquillo Barnetta was able to put the ball in the net in the 56th minute of play.
Grasshopper therefore earned 3 crucial points that, together with the vote “YES” for the construction of a new stadium, make this Sunday a very pleasant one. What can we say instead about St. Gallen? Unfortunately, the lack of consistency is still a huge problem… just like the inaccuracy in front of goal.

We don’t know what to say anymore when it comes to Raphaël Nuzzolo… he scored, he fights, he’s determined, he’s a leader. We mean, welcome back to the Super League!
