Federico Dimarco arrives in Sion from Empoli, the Serie A side for which he played last season.
He was born in Milan and grew up in the quarter of Calvairate.
Federico Dimarco is a product of the youth organization of Inter, the team for which he made his debuts as a professional player on December 11th 2014 when, then 17 years old, he was lined up in the Europa League match drew 0-0 against Qarabag (Azerbaijan).
His Serie A debut though, took place only on the occasion of the last day of the 2014-15 season. It was May 31st when Inter won 4-3 against Empoli, and Dimarco came in as a sub on the 89th minute for Palacio.
That was his first and last game played for Inter… the next season in fact, during the winter market session Dimarco was loaned out to Ascoli in Serie B. 15 appearances and 4 assists for him.
Last summer, the great opportunity to play regularly in Serie A. The player is loaned out to Empoli.
Unfortunately, the season of the Tuscans was far from satisfactory. Dimarco collected 12 appearances, but the team got relegated.
Finally now, the opportunity to seriously launch his career thank to the transer to Sion.
The player is considered a great prospect, and not for nothing he’s been selected regoularly for the youth National Team of Italy, from U15 to U20.
Federico Dimarco is a defender (mainly a full back) who was born as an offensive football player. The guy is left-footed, and he’s technically very skilled.
In order to know better Dimarco, and to let you know what kind of player to expect, we usually rely on the opinion of someone who actually followed the player.
For this occasion, we contacted Alessandro Marmugi, journalist of “Il Tirreno” (http://iltirreno.gelocal.it/empoli) who regularly follows Empoli, Dimarco’s last Serie A team.
We thank Alessandro for his time and availability, and below we propose you in full his considerations on the player.
Federico Dimarco is definitely a great prospect.
Even though he is not very tall he is physically strong and his greatest qualities are definitely the speed and his left foot. He’s a full back who loves to push forward and he’s very fast.
He can shoot very well, with Empoli he created himself many chances with long distance shots last season, and with the U20 Italian National team he converted several free kicks. So he can be obviously useful also during set play situations to generate chances and to serve assists.
He can play as a full back in a 4 man defense, but the role that mostly suits him is probably as a left wing in a 3-5-2 system of play. He is very good on the offensive phase, but must improve in defending.
In Empoli because of this reason, he’s often been benched in order to make space to the former Fiorentina captain Manuel Pasqual.
Thank you, Alessandro!
Let’s see now some trivia about the player, some of his career stats and finally a couple of videos of him in action.
